The reluctance of the ITU to embrace CDMA as the standard says something, and reverts to Mike's general comments, which I'll characterize like this " Don't forget legacy infrastructure. While the ITU seems ready to embrace a family of standards....it seems likely that much of the world will be moving to some form of CDMA with the evolution to 3G. Likely the only operators left with a TDMA air interface will be the current TDMA operators (poor AT&T) who have no clear way to evolve their networks to either CDMA2000 or W-CDMA. While legacy infrastructure is a powerful drag, take a look at the amounts that current GSM operators are bidding on 3G spectrum in the UK..... spectrumauctions.gov.uk The total bids are for over $33 Billion....and I believe that half of that will be due immediately. These operators will have a pretty powerful incentive to move quickly to recoup their investments.... Slacker
