REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Excite@Home (NASDAQ:ATHM), the leader in broadband, today announced results from its ongoing Subscriber Studies. The February 2000 study revealed that 40% of all @Home(R) service subscribers spend more than 20 hours per week online, and 15% of those subscribers are online for more than 40 hours per week. The @Home Subscriber Study also indicates that almost 50% of @Home subscribers have multiple PCs in their home.

The study also showed that the top five uses of the Internet, after email, for @Home subscribers are: research and information, education or homework, personal finance, online chat, and career searching. This is further indication that the Internet has quickly become a tool for every member of the household and that @Home subscribers are breaking new ground on how to use the Internet to its potential.

"Because the @Home service is always-on, subscribers spend more time online and they are using the Internet for a broad range of applications," said Byron Smith, executive vice president and general manager for @Home. "When we see that our subscribers spend more hours online and have more members of the family on @Home, all of this indicates that we are doing it right."
Because the @Home service is always-on, subscribers can access the Internet at any time, allowing for more productive hours online, without the chance of being disconnected as can often occur through dial-up Internet services. This accounts for the number of active hours @Home subscribers spend online, which on average is approximately 20 hours per week, more than 20% higher than dial-up users.
Other findings from the @Home Subscriber Study indicate that more than 50% of @Home subscribers have a college degree and 60% have been accessing the Internet for at least 3 years. Over 15% of @Home subscribers have never had an Internet service provider before, up from 9% in 1998, indicating that the service is not just for hardcore Internet users, but also for people new to the Internet. Half of @Home subscriber households have children using the service and almost three quarters have two or more adults using the @Home service. Not only are @Home subscribers mainstream households, they are integrating the Internet into their daily lives and incorporating every member of the household.
