Many people are ignorant to the misery of others, especially if the other people are different or have a different religion.

The people who want to send Elian back to Cuba ignore the fact that thousands upon thousands of Cubans are constantly risking their lives to flee Castro's cruel and incompetent rule.

When Castro separates thousands of children, from their parents, in Cuba, so that the children can be brainwashed, many Americans just don't care.

But, no matter how Fido Castro tries to brainwash his own people, into believing that Castro's revolution is "for" the people instead of "against" the people, the average Cuban knows the difference and wants to flee Castro and Cuba.

Throwing Elian back into Cuba is basically the same as throwing him back into the ocean to drown.
