"The version launched today will only play pre-recorded Music on Silicon (MOS) chips, which are expected to sell for about œ16 each when they hit the market.

The record companies like the Solo because in its current form it prevents piracy. The MOS chips are read-only and cannot therefore be used to record or download music from the internet. However, future versions will be based on a removable multimedia card, which will be controlled directly by record companies or, more likely, by mobile phone companies. This will enable consumers to pay to download music over their mobile phones and then play it on their Solos. "
