Hmm, when I spent time at the track when I was much younger I was told the gov't took 20 to 25% off the top of every dollar bet. I didn't realize that there were different takes for different bets. Of course, it's been 20 years or so since I've been to a racetrack, so I'm sure things might have changed. Then of course the track took a percentage too, which one could compare to commission and slippage. I thought it was too much of a handicap to continue.
