I submit an alternative view: Every child is a Sorcerer. When I was very young, the Real and the Imaginary cohabited seamlessly. Magic was all about. It took age and experience to winnow out the Imaginary.
The Irrational was a haven, not always a monster. Losing the ability to stand on the bathroom scale and alter my weight by five pounds by a sheer act of will was demystifying, but a piece of the precious Magic died that day.
Sasha Shulgin, in his treatise "Pihkal", noted that the greatest gift to him from the psychedelic phenethylamines was to restore the child's-eye view of the world as a place where Magic was woven into the Mundane.
