Sprint PCS sees strong Q2, year subscriber growth NEW YORK, April 18 (Reuters) - Sprint PCS Group (NYSE:PCS - news), the wireless telephone unit of Sprint Corp. (NYSE:FON - news), said on Tuesday it expects to add more than 800,000 new subscribers in the second quarter, building on its better-than-expected growth in the first quarter.
Sprint PCS expects to add about 3.8 million to 3.9 million new wireless subscribers for the full year 2000. The high rate of customer growth will push its capital spending to about $3 billion, the company said.
The company added 831,000 new customers in the first quarter, surpassing Wall Street expectations of 711,400, bringing its total wireless subscriber base to more than 6.5 million.
Sprint PCS expects to post a second-quarter EBITDA -- or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization -- loss of about $100 million. It expects to reach EBITDA break-even later this year.
The company said it was seeing strong average revenues per user as customers subscribe for plans with greater minutes of use and with the adoption of data services.
