BGR,

Satistically speaking his record combined with the other students of Ben Graham is more like a 20 sigma event if that is a term. :-) Assigning a term like 3 sigma event to explain a result that is both logical and obvious to non-academics is really somewhat laughable. Perhaps their theory is wrong and some guys can beat the market, the horses, etc... It's just that the academics can't because their ideas are flawed.

You should consider that a possibility considering I am telling you I know guys that beat the horses for a living and they all use a similar method. I have been doing the same in recent years using many of the insights I gained from them. Obviously it is not luck if someone can teach it to you.

As to the S&P500, many of the issues are overvalued and many are fairly valued. Some of the remainder are not large enough to make many billion dollar investments in and out without moving the stock and hurting your own performance.
And again, one year is a few flips of coin. Totally meaningless statistically. Look at his performance again in 10 years. By then he'll be a 200 sigma event. (g)
