It happened once to me when I was hitch hiking in Europe in 1980. We put up a sign "Athens" when we where still close to Amsterdam. We got a lift and we could put our backpack it the back of the car. The guy left the main highway when we crossed the border to Germany. After we crossed the border he said "well that package is safe now". Had he been caught he would have used us as an alibi. You learn not to trust all people at first sight. (After some more lifts of friendly people we came into Italy and from there we took the train to Yugoslavia. I've been to Lublyana, Plitvitch, Split, Dubrovnik, Foca and Serajevo. It were beautiful places to be with a mixture of European and Turkish cultures. It was painful to see this country go through war and a period of ethnic hate in the last decade. It will take time to rebuild this country, which now have become 5 or 6. I hope to go back there, especially to the islands in front of the coast of Croatia, like Korcula, where you could see the bottom of the sea, 20 meters below the boat.) Regards, Pareto
