The 2Q report was good - and they are handling the chipset transition well. My problem is the conference call. I didn't get any of the 3G answers I was looking for. And this is the issue that must be the most important right now.

Is Qualcomm going to compete in the W-CDMA chipset market? According to the CC, the company seems to believe W-CDMA is not a standard and nothing to worry about. A lot of talk about HDR, 1XRTT and cdma2000.

I can't figure this out. Is Qualcomm telling us that they don't intend to compete in the W-CDMA chipset market at this moment? Aren't they worried about all those mobile operators building W-CDMA networks? How can they be absolutely sure that W-CDMA is delayed so badly it won't pose a threat to Qualcomm?

I mean - as far as I know, Q is not part of the ongoing W-CDMA trials and network development. I don't think they are in the position to announce W-CDMA dead.

There was nothing solid about Japan. What is going on and is Qualcomm serious about building a cdma2000 network there? If DDI really picks W-CDMA - how does this fit into Qualcomm's view of every CDMA operator falling neatly into their mobile internet technology camp?

The analysts felt programmed and forcefully cheerful; Stepford Wives do Wall Street. Can't believe there wasn't even one cdma200 skeptic on the line.
