I too understand your frustration with this quarter's results. All was not sweetness and light under Andy, though. He'll go down as one of the all time greats, but let's not forget:
1. The Pentium classic FDIV problem, which was stonewalled for quite a while, instead of being faced up to. Andy was the guy then.
2. Intel's poor yield situation in the 80's (poor relative to the Japanese). Barrett is credited with bailing Intel out of that one, and he became the manufacturing hero of the company, Intel's most heralded strength. The amount of money Intel lost in one year back then, expressed as a percentage of their revenues, would be the equivalent of greater than $1 billion today.
There were more, and not to say Andy wasn't/isn't great, he was/is. I'm not ready to declare current management bad, however. Of course, my visibility is very limited.
