(SOK) Socket Announces Wireless Internet and Other Connectivity Solutions for
New Windows-powered Pocket PCs

NEW YORK, Apr 19, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Compatible CompactFlash I/O Cards from Socket Include Adapters
for Mobile Phones, Ethernet, USB, Bar Code Scanners, and
Serial COM Devices

Socket Communications Inc. (OTCBB:SCKT and SCKTW; Pacific Stock Exchange SOK), a
leading supplier of wireless Internet solutions for handheld computers, today
announced a comprehensive line of mobile connectivity products for
Windows-powered Pocket PCs, the next-generation of PDAs from Microsoft and its
hardware manufacturer partners. At the Pocket PC Launch event held today at the
Grand Central Terminal in New York, Socket showed the Battery Friendly(tm)
family of CompactFlash plug-in cards for attaching Pocket PCs to mobile phones,
Ethernet networks, USB ports, bar code scanners, and serial peripherals.

Socket's Digital Phone Card is a low-power plug-in card that makes it simple to
connect any Windows-based PDA or notebook to data-capable mobile phones made by
Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Qualcomm, Siemens and others, and to use these phones
for wireless Internet access. Socket's Low Power Ethernet Card provides
high-speed, location-independent synchronization and is the only Ethernet
adapter currently available for ultra-thin Pocket PCs equipped with Type I
CompactFlash slots. Socket's USB ActiveSync Card makes it easy to synchronize a
Pocket PC with a notebook or desktop PC. Socket's bar code laser scanner and
scanner wand cards make mobile data collection fast and accurate. Socket's
serial COM cards attach a Pocket PC to industry-standard serial peripherals.

"Features built into the Pocket PC such as the transparent web browser,
hi-resolution color screen, and industry-standard expansion slot, combine to
make it the premiere platform for wireless Internet access, mobile productivity
and field data collection," said Kevin Mills, CEO of Socket. "We have added
Pocket PC support to all of our CompactFlash I/O cards and we have introduced a
new USB card to make it easier than ever for mobile professionals to use a PDA."

"Socket's focus on the industry-standard CompactFlash interface continues to pay
dividends to mobile computer users," said Rogers Weed, director of marketing for
the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "By offering state-of-the-art
solutions for a broad range of mobile applications, Socket's family of
CompactFlash I/O cards take clear advantage of the expandability of the Pocket
PC platform. Now Pocket PC users can easily add new capabilities to their
devices as their needs change and grow."
