I think the game plan is to "divide and conquer." There is no simple answer to fighting MP3. . . so by the record industry signing deals with every Tom, Dick or Harry that can offer encoded music. . . they will dilute the market. Dozens of formats. . .incompatible. . .eventually leading up to disposable media and broadband downloads. . . where you pay a tiny amount each time you listen, rather than a large amount when you buy the product.
