Global Telemedia New York Telecom / Technology Conference Prompts Philippines Visit of Telcoms Malaysia Executive
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2000--
Telcoms Malaysia Executive Expresses Interest in the Deployment of BentleyTel V-SAT Tele-Centers Within the 23 million Population of Malaysia
Global TeleMedia International, Inc. (OTC: BB: GTMI) President, Jonathon Bentley-Stevens, announced today that the recent New York Telecom/Technology conference hosted by the Company prompted a three-day visit by Dr. Haji Marzuki, Vice President of the Malaysian Multimedia Super Corridor (http://www.mdc.com.my), and Mr. Hawel Nyured, Chief of Sales and Service for Telecoms Malaysia in the Sarawak region.
Mr. Nyured indicated that Malaysia was in need of a rural satellite based Telecom system.
To help meet these needs, Global TeleMedia COO, John Walsh, will visit Australia, the Philippines and Malaysia immediately to meet with BentleyTel executives in order to develop effective marketing plans, local and international advertising and reporting systems which can interface with Global's U.S. office and provide up-to-date call frequency and revenue generation information. Mr. Walsh will also develop a proposal for Telcom Malaysia which may be able to incorporate the V-SAT TeleCenters with BentleyTel Australia's VoIP technology and the recently proposed system by Lucent Technologies which is PC-PC and PC-Phone capable and can be linked to the BentleyTel Tele-Centers (http://www.bentleytel.com) (under Philippines).
BentleyTel Malaysia President, Dr. Morni Kambri, who accompanied Dr. Haji Marzuki and Mr. Hawel Nyured to the Philippines, said, "Malaysia has a 23 million population and over one million foreigners. We also have a huge migrant labor market in Malaysia, from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia totaling approximately 400,000 - 500,000 employees, as well as around 200,000 Malaysian students studying overseas. All of them have a need to call home and receive e-transfer of funds which mean revenue potential, as does ISP, B2B and consumer direct e-commerce applications."
He continued, "Mr. Nyured is going to present to me and my team a proposal on a Malaysia-wide SAT / VOIP deployment for BentleyTel Tele-Centers. We undertook a site visit to three BentleyTel rural Tele-Centers located in Davao Oriental (Banaybanay & Lupon) and Davao del Norte Panabo.
"BentleyTel Malaysia is affiliated with the Tun Abdul Razak University, a group of 20 campuses with hundreds of thousands of students. We checked the facilities of each Tele-Center and after discussions with Mr. Nyured and Dr. Marzuki, I have a strong conviction that we can immediately plan for the setting up of a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) server similar to the one in Darwin using one system designed for BentleyTel Australia by Ericsson. This could be based in Kuching which will interface with the Universities and deliver VoIP calling to the more populated urban areas, long distance and International calling to rural towns such as the 56 locations served by BentleyTel Philippines."
BentleyTel Philippines President, Socrates Palabyab, said, "With 56 calling centers and kiosks, BentleyTel is capturing the long distance and international calling of a `captive audience'. We are the exclusive or dominant telecom in these regions. We now service approximately 1.5 million people and though many of the centers are new, the calling rate is increasing daily.
"With the help of John Walsh, we will embark on an aggressive marketing drive and promote our services and develop a list of overseas relatives that can be contacted both by the USA office and via our telemarketing partner and promote the use of the BentleyTel Smart-e-Card to lower call costs and effect funds transfers to these rural areas. The local BentleyTel card holders should be delighted at being able to have such a universal card and BentleyTel is poised to reap the benefits of the international funds transfer either as paid calls or e-transfers fees."
