Anybody care to take a crack at this one? Vodaphone's bid for the "B" spectrum license in beautiful, downtown Europe is currently at $9 Billion (yes, that's billion) and VOD ain't done yet. The stock is down, in large part due to a fear that VOD might be mortgaging the farm for all those airwaves. Doesn't this give VOD nine billion reasons to use the spectrally un-challenged CDMA solution? O.K. I know they can't use it in Paris just yet, but apparently VOD is in lust for this license so they can offer DATA to their European customers. Hasn't Irwin figured out how to send tons of the stuff in one teeny-weeny 1.25Mhz channel? So inquiring minds want to know why VOD needs to spend this much dough--they certainly use CDMA elsewhere on the planet and must know the score. I take it a GSM/HDR combo is out of the question, but would love to know why. Consider this a 2nd stage techno-SOS (I own VOD and the damn thing is flashing red). Surfer Mike
