Chaz,

More boring stuff.

Below is a new News Release from 3GPP. It is the 1st News Release they have published since 19 January 2000.

3GPP2 has been silent since 27 January 2000).

Likewise, ITU has been pretty silent since their 10 December 1999 release agreeing to six network-related standards for IMT-2000 and the 5 IMT-2000 Radio Interface Specs announced 5 November 1999.

Trucks (or other moving vehicles), BTW, have little to do with the size of the darned UE. <g>

>> TEST SPECIFICATION ACTIVITY LAUNCHED FOR 3GPP

The 3GPP?s Mobile Competence Centre (MCC) has launched two new activities related to the development of test specifications for the 3rd Generation mobile system. The work will be carried out within the MCC at the headquarters of ETSI, one of the 3GPP Organizational Partners. Experts to perform the two tasks, known as tasks 160 and 161, have been selected from among candidates submitted by the Organizational Partners following a Call for Experts issued in February.

The scope of the MCC task 160 is to develop conformance Abstract Test Suites (ATSs) for User Equipment (UE) based on Technical Specification TS 34.123-1 for Release 99. The ATSs should cover the requirements of idle mode and a minimum set of services including voice and emergency call, fax, circuit switched data and Short Message Service. The ATSs contain both NAS (Non-Access Stratum) and AS (Access Stratum) protocol conformance specifications in TTCN (Tree and Tabular Combined Notation). The expected delivery includes a document TS 34.123-3 and ATSs in both MP (machine processable) and GR (graphical) forms.

The scope of the MCC task 161 is principally to develop the UE test description for the packet-switched services in TS 34.123-1 for Release 99. The task will also address some important open issues applicable to both packet switched and circuit switched operation.

Six experts will participate in task 160, contributed by ARIB (Japan), CWTS (China), ETSI (Europe) and Committee T1 (USA), whilst four experts, from CWTS, ETSI and T1, will participate in task 161. This international mix of the two teams, the costs of which are being shared among the Organizational Partners, is characteristic of the global nature of the 3GPP development work.

Tight timescales

Work on task 160 is scheduled to start in July, and the first draft deliverable (version 1.0.0) is expected by the end of November. Validation will start in December. Task 161 has a shorter life cycle, as the work will start in May, with the first results being reported to the 3GPP Working Group T1 (Mobile Terminal Conformance Testing) meeting in June. The final output of this task will be submitted for approval to the subsequent Working Group T1 meeting at the beginning of September. <<
