Anecdotally it seems men have much more problem with adoption- maybe a fear of being cuckolded and raising another man's child- is behind this- maybe not. I wonder if there are any statistics on attitudes towards adoption- broken down by sex of the respondent.

If you thought I was suggesting out only purpose was to reproduce, I was not. I meant only that reproduction is our basic purpose as organisms, as biological creatures. My other purpose is whatever I choose it to be. That is not limited by anything, except my own conceptions. I think as biological organisms we do grieve when we can no longer reproduce, but if we are balanced we do only limited grieving, and it need not affect the other purpose or purposes we have set for ourselves, or the other purposes we accept as valid (if these purposes are of external origin).
