Competition for DDIM from MCI?
LAS VEGAS, May 6 (Reuter) - MCI Systemhouse, MCI Communications Corp's information technology arm, on Tuesday unveiled a Year 2000 service and software package designed to help companies fix their millennium bug problems. Many older computers and software programs, unable to process two-digit dates correctly after December 31, 1999, could crash on January 1, 2000, while many other will think the date is Jauary 1, 1900. Those firms must dedicate resources or hire other firms to mine through millions of lines of computer code to fix the problem. MCI's Y2K starter kit provides software, consulting, and facilitation activities required to support the early phases of a Y2K compliance effort. This includes building internal awareness in the organization, establishing a dedicated Y2K Project/Program Management Office, and planning and conducting a high-level inventory. MCI Systemhouse said its millennium Y2K starter kit will be available in mid-June in North America. The kit will cost $75,000, which includes a total of 10 days of consulting services and a Pentium-based computer.
