Average Intel holder probably buys Intel because it is a market leader. Very good reason, to be sure, but only if you are a dollar cost averaging kind of guy. People who have been buying Intel since Q3 of 99 are momentum players and know what they are doing or have no idea what is going on in this industry - otherwise they wouldn't be buying.

Can't say what the momentum crowd is doing in Intel, but last year when I suggested to the Intel longs that Intel may have overpaid for DSP and Level One, their response was that Intel was becoming another CSCO and expected great things to happen to Intel's revenue stream due to these acquisitions. Thus they did not mind that Intel may have overpaid.

So for the long term holders the fact that these acquisitions may prove not to be beneficial will come as shock. And you have to remember with Intel, there are a lot of long term holders. At some point there may be an exodus out of the stock.....something like what happened to Dell last year.
