the state ranks near the top in the nation in rates of AIDS and just how is aids the governors fault? According to a report by the state comptroller's office in 1998, "Health conditions in the Texas-Mexico border are among the worst in the U.S., so distressful that reports on health conditions suggest a remote country in need of medical missionaries, not a part of Texas." ""according to a report""...which means the author of that statement more than likely has never been to the border. So he/she has no clue about the special problems of the area. Problems such as lots of space and very few people. Even the people WITH good insurance have to travel quite a distance to get to a doctor or hospital. There are just no doctors in the area. No money in it. I guess that is gov. fault too? One thing I would like to see. A plan that would provide every kid under a certain age general healthcare. But you know, I remember when I was young, the only insurance I had was through the school. It was cheap and available, and probably fairly general. And I also remember that not very many kids I knew , NEEDED healthcare.
