richard,

Price of Rambus RIMMS droping

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! (Serious arm-waving a la Arsenio going on right now). Great find.

This is the last piece of the puzzle. The last major stumbling block is price (well, okay, production is an issue, too, but it's tightly linked to price). In all of the reviews of the systems I've seen, the PIII/820/RDRAM systems are lauded for their performance, but the reviews have all mentioned the high price of RDRAM. Hopefully, they'll soon just laud the performance.

There was an incredibly ridiculous line in the article, however: "This will be great news for those who wish to use Rambus memory on their 820 motherboards but will be bad news for people who have just bought RIMMs before the price dropped by 68 per cent."

Every high-tech product in the world drops in price. Everyone gets hit by declining value in the products they've just purchased. It's disingenuous (and silly) to present it as a negative. OTOH if, as our friendly bears claim, it's true that no one is buying RDRAM anyway then I guess no one got hurt. <G>

I look forward to the day when RDRAM is no longer newsworthy for The Register.

Dave

p.s. I don't keep The Register bookmarked. Can you post the link? Thanks.
