Informix shares fall, most active on Nasdaq
NEW YORK, April 20 (Reuters) - Shares in database software maker Informix Corp. (NasdaqNM:IFMX - news) fell 30 percent on Thursday, a day after news of low license revenues offset surprisingly strong earnings.
Informix fell 5 to close at 11-15/16 on Nasdaq, where it was the most actively traded stock with over 34 million shares in the Menlo Park, Calif.-based company changing hands.
``There is a sense of disappointment about the license revenue number, even though the company has some very good technology,' said Mark Murphy, a software analyst at First Albany Corp.
Informix, which competes with Oracle Corp. (NasdaqNM:ORCL - news), said total revenue rose about 10 percent to $250.9 million for the first quarter, from $227.5 million in the year-ago period. Revenues from software licensing edged up 3.3 percent to $119.3 million from $115.5 million.
The database and business software company reported that earnings per share tripled to 9 cents from 3 cents, but fell to a loss per share of 8 cents after nonrecurring charges associated with the acquisition of Ardent Software. |
