Your post is a superb example of the difference between American thinking and European thinking.

Europe has always tried to standardize. We have driving licenses that look the same, we have a minimum VAT which makes it impossible for a member country to choose not to have VAT, etc. We are even trying to standardize trains, making it possible to ride a train from Paris to Stockholm. This haven't been achieved yet.

On your points:

1) We do have standardized measurements on how to rate Microwaves, Fridges, Cars etc. The EuroNCAP test is an important sales parameter for cars. We do have standardized interfaces in a car: It needs front lights, brake lights etc. And yes, we are more restrictive than the USA.
2) No. We don't all speak English like you do :-)
3) The more you use the World Wide Web, the more you should thank the Europeans for that standardization. The more incompatible your web-browser is with a web page, you should thank Netscape and Microsoft.

Your insult on European levels on technology you should keep to yourself. I hear that some of you still use analog modems.
