Hi She,

I'm not sure how good a lot of that stuff works.
If I remember correctly, the JDS stuff is a device that you can plug into your computer and it allows you to program which lights you want to go on and off.

Usually these X10 devices will replace your normal outlets and switches. They also have devices that you plug into your outlet nad then plug a lamp into it.

One time I was trying to figure out if any Publicly traded company owned the rights to X-10 technology. It sends a signal (at a different frequency the 60 Hz you have in your electric power) over your existing wires. Then you can have a master controller or remote to operate your stuff.
I never found out who owns the X-10 patents.

Most of these devices are not of the highest quality.

Leviton has a system called "Elan" (I believe).
Leviton is the industry leader in most switches and receptacles. Their system seems to be higher quality.

JMHO.
