By Tom Wolf, Bridge News New York--Apr 20--US stocks are seen subdued on the
open Monday after Microsoft expressed caution about near-term growth in
reporting earnings after the bell Thursday. Blue chip stocks look to outperform
as investors remain leery of high-priced technology issues.

* * * Equities futures wound up mixed. S&P 500 futures finished up 7 at 1447, or
2 points above fair value, indicating a mild bullish bent on the close. Nasdaq
100 futures ended down 92 at 3535, or 1 point below fair value at 3536. US Jun
Treasury bonds traded higher by 2/32 at 98 2/32 on the day. The yield on the
30-year cash bond slipped 0.02 to 5.83%, while the rate on the 10-year note was
unchanged at 5.99%. After the bell, Microsoft (MSFT) reported third quarter
earnings of 43 cents a share, or 2 cents above the First Call consensus
estimate. The software giant, however, said sales were hurt by a slowdown in
personal computer sales and expressed caution about near-term prospects.

"Revenue was light as demand for business PCs remained slow in the quarter, and
we remain guarded about near-term growth," said John Connors, Microsoft's chief
financial officer.
