Everyone can interpret that however they want to. My own opinion is that it was a masterful piece of indirection. Intel knows (roughly) how much equipment is currently in place at Dresden and has been expecting only limited volume of Spitfire + Thunderbird. They have been thinking that the only thing that they could be facing in H2 in large volume is Athlons (a fine chip but very expensive to manufacture) and K6-X (a bottom end chip). So Intel has not been worrying and went ahead and crippled coppermine Celeron so it wouldn't hurt PIII sales. Now it turns out there will lots of Spitfires from Austin (a fully built out FAB) and 100% of the Dresden production can be allocated to Thunderbird (effectively quadrupling the availability of that chip). Time to redesign the Celeron again, better hurry up! Regards, Dan
