About RDRAM ONLY in Dell workstations ========================================================= On February 22 someone named ASCHWEBEL on the FOOL board claimed that it would be RDRAM only in Dell Precision Workstations by the end of April (but could not name his source). I replied "I would believe you if you provide a link" Yesterday I asked USJEFF (from WWW.Rambusite.com) how long he has known this but got a reply from ASCHWEBEL.
His reply is interesting indeed. Hope it is true. His credibility is up as his timing is right on. Still sceptical but this time he has my attention. Here you go BU$$ER$ ===================================================== Mishedlo,
I made this post almost 2 months ago. It's post 4204 if u wanna check it out again.

I can't tell u how I got this information, but it is fact! As of April of this year, ALL Dell Workstations will be RAMBUS ONLY! They are completely dropping SDRAM support in their Precision line and will do the same with the rest of their products. I have been confirmed that by the end of this year, they ONLY want to inventory RAMBUS parts. The saying goes, as Dell goes, so does the industry. Dell is always first mover in their space and the competition trying to play catch up, follows the leader. What are the implications for Dell, well they already buy 70% of the RAMBUS lot and plan on doing what they always do, get volume discounts. Dell does what's best for them...what's that u ask. Well, it's been stated that they pay roughly $52 per 128MB module and charge customers roughly $900 per 128MB module. Roughly $850 is PURE PROFIT! 'Nuff said!
To tackle Zorloc and other nay sayers: it is VERY TRUE that the best technology doesn't always win out. But a combination of "good" technology and GREAT marketing will ALWAYS win! When u have a company like Intel spending over $850 MILLION dollars to support what you are doing, plus deals with ALL of the top 13 DRAM manufacturers, plus DELL, u simply cannot lose! It won't happen. DDR is doomed if it ever gets off the ground. It has no "Intel" backing it. Micron...please! Marketing is SOOO crucial and RAMBUS has it! And this is only the PC market...a springboard for the comm industry. Once RDRAM is mass produced, thank you Intel, it will be a no brainer for everyone else to include it in their products.
Sorry shorts and nay sayers, but this game is OVER. Don't be stupid and sulk in the loss, there is still PLENTY of money to be made when u ride the BUS! After all, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! And SMART money is already on the BUS.
Speaking of which, the BUS is only in 2nd gear. It's at 3000RPM and we're gettin ready to make the shift to 3rd. There are 5 gears, but 5th will only be engaged once RAMBUS is added to the S&P. It'll be a long ride, but we've got plenty of gas.

P.S. DDR will be ours anyways, we'll get the royalties to that one as well cause it definitely crosses our patents. Competition...what competition :)

Hopefully, this will bring some credibility to my posts. :) Here's some new news for ya, again I can't say how I got this information, but it is fact. Some major internet companies are standardizing on RAMBUS based PC systems, including atleast one of the big 4 internet companies. I know because I am involved in the process and set the standard :) We will be standardizing on RAMBUS in laptops as soon as it's available as well and servers too. Don't worry, this isn't as speculative as most would believe ;)
Happy BUS riding...riding the BUS to retirement :)
