Sudan: Production Trials Begin At New Oil Refinery In Khartoum

Testing at the Jayli Oil Refinery [Khartoum] began today with the function being attended by Energy and Mining Minister Dr Awad Ahmad al-Jaz. All the units at the refinery are expected to be completed and various oil products meeting the required standards will be ready in the coming weeks.
It is worth mentioning that the refinery has a capacity of producing about 50,000 b/d and will produce all oil products. The surplus will be exported through the pipeline to Basha'ir port [on the Red Sea coast].
Dr Jaz commended the efforts made by the workers at the refinery and congratulated them on the successful commissioning of the refinery.

First Vice-President Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha today gave directives to the ministries of finance, industry and external trade to orchestrate the efforts in order to increase and promote Sudanese exports. He also called for speeding up steps of establishing the higher council for Sudanese exports.
In an inspection visit to the Ministry of External Trade, Mr Taha said Sudan is expected to witness an economic renaissance [and] also becoming a member of OPEC.
The first vice-president further called upon the cooperation sector to play a greater role in easing the living conditions.
Cabinet Affairs Minister Abdallah Hasan Ahmad referred to the importance of increasing the role of the private sector in introducing the Sudanese exports to world market.
Minister of Federal Relations Ahmad al-Tahir called for activating border trade, while [the] minister of external trade, Makki Ali Balayil, revealed that a technical committee for [the] promotion of the Sudanese exports has been set up.

Khartoum, 18th April: Minister of Finance Dr Muhammad Khayr Al-Zubayr announced that Sudan has restored its membership at the Arab Fund for Economic Development after it has been able to handle the issue of its arrears to the fund, which amounted to 214m dollars.
Suna [Sudan News Agency] learned that Sudan has signed, during the finance minister's participation at the recent meetings of the Arab finance institutions in Morocco, an agreement with the OPEC fund to provide a 10m dollar loan for financing the project of the national electricity network. Work in the national electricity project is due to begin next month.
On the other hand, Sudan has chaired the meetings of the Arab InvestmentGuarantee Corporation, which reviewed among other issues establishment of investment projects in Sudan.
Sudan was also selected as chairman of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa for the coming session.
On the sidelines of the meetings, the minister of finance met the minister of finance and industry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and discussed ways of strengthening the bilateral relations. The finance minister in UAE promised to visit Sudan in next October at the head of and economic delegation.
Dr Al-Zubayr also met Director of the Arab Monetary Fund, Jassim Al-Manaai, and agreed on a formula for settlement of Sudan arrears and resuming the fund's activity in Sudan.
