Randall many in the European and Asian W-CDMA camps insist that 1X is really 2.5G no matter what the 3G specifications say. That is probably true. Hence the recent Nokia press release touting GPRS as "3G". But I'm not sure I understand your point about commercial advantage. The commercial advantage of 1x MC and 1x HDR will become so obviously evident as DDI/DDO roll out their 1x MC system that even "Easter Bunny" press releases won't be able to hide it.
