Wouldn't this approach the status of a non-issue if the company were not losing money?

Accounting Irregularities == Sell.

It's not just a matter of how much money was involved. It's a matter of trust. Why should you continue to trust a management that has had to admit that it's been lying to you in its financial statements? It takes a long time to get people to trust you again.
