MM, there are two trends that pose a great threat to MSFT:

1. Home systems are slowly but surely becoming "internet access appliances" without the need of elaborate and complex operating systems like Windows. For example, the coming Playstation 2 from Sony.

2. Centralized servers are proliferating and are increasingly running on lean and mean and free Unix derivatives like Linux. There is a compelling case for server operating systems that can be replicated for free. I believe Yahoo is running on free BSD, for example.
