Parents get to set rules, whatever rules they want, so long as those rules do not violate the physical or mental well-being of a child, by which I mean actual abuse. That does not mean that all rules parents set are good, or that too many rules will control a child but parents are entitled to try. When I said "make him volunteer" my language was a bit imprecise. What I meant was they have every right to say "This is what we want you to do and if you don't there will be no allowance, no car, no money, no...." When you support someone, you have a right to direct their lives, that is my opinion.

Did you read about the parents who just let their kid die of diabetes because they only believed in prayer for illnesses. They had had another child die from an ear infection because of their beliefs. This would be an example of rules you cannot set for your child, ones that endanger their lives or mental health.
