you have not addressed the question of why being more
numerous and prosperous is better. You insinuate that it makes us more likely to survive, but then why is population control a hot issue?

This approaches absurdity. The human race is several million years old; population control has been a hot issue for a few decades. I've never said that humans approach each issue by consciously evaluating its implications for survival, that would be absurd. But over the millions of years when survival of any given social group was almost continuously at risk, certain imperatives inevitably developed, and it is not hard to see that cohesion within the group, fecundity, and the development of new and better ways to do things must have been high among these imperatives. A basic conviction that it is good to think and innovate, to seek better ways, may lead down many paths, and many of them may not lead to immediately practical results; that does not alter the basic drive, not what seems to me to be the simplest and most practical explanation for its origin.

it may be that fascism is not overthrown by rational disputation, but it is overthrown by those willing to fight rather than acquiesce in the imposed order. You think that it is simply a matter of self-preservation. I think that it is a matter of moral conviction.

Did America fight Japan because the Japanese were Bad, or because they dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor? Came you name a few instances where anybody fought a fascist regime out of moral conviction?
