Duncan, Iridium are off and running! From the news item, [thanks], Iridium have launched bona fide operating satellites which will form part of the Iridium system, but there seemed to be an attitude that subsequent satellites might not be using the same software and hardware. With later launches now contracted for 1999, it might be that these first satellites are not really up to par. They are 5 months late on the launch which means more than weather.

So while they will be operational in 1998, the system won't be really working well until 1999. They are now almost on the same timetable as Globalstar despite years of head start.

Yes, cooler here, but due to an enormous high pressure area, we have had a week of blue skies.
