<< News reports are that Elian will not be taken to the Cuban Interest Section. >>

That's good news. But, with the Cuban government holding the Gonzalez family as hostages in Cuba, it won't be too long before Castro gets his slimy hands on Elian.

OTOH, even though I feel that the U.S. screwed up badly on this night time raid, the freedom of the press makes me proud of this country. The news was there to record all of our government's acts.

In Cuba, or any other dictatorship, they do not allow the news to show what the government is doing. In Cuba, they would have taken the child and thrown the adults into prison, without a trial and without news reporters around to record the governments misdeeds.

Dictatorships are terrified of freedom of the press. As long was we have freedom of the press, we are free, and the heavy handed government can't hide their acts.
