"but over the shape of the future world......" The shape of the world has a great deal to do with survival (it would seem to me). Planning and shaping the best possible world for your progeny- is what we are about- at least that's how it would appear- from the way mother's plan for their babies and the way father's try to guide their children's economic futures. It's part of our survival. Something to think about- resistance to Hitler was but one strategy, capitulation was the other- and it was not at all certain which would be the msot successful choice. It is because we are diverse (I think) that humans went for both strategies. Of course we see one choice as "right" and one as "wrong" but if everyone who had made the right choice (IE the resistance) were dead now- that would NOT have been the successful choice.
