An outstanding series of posts, DH. Quality work.
From your profile I see you are a LTB&H like myself. This type of analysis is what we should all be doing as we make our current investment decisions.
This and other threads seem to be so preoccupied with what AG will or will not do over the next few months. This is really not the issues a LTB&H investor should be concerned with. If you find quality companies that you believe will grow significantly over a long period of time, and you can buy their stock at a reasonable price, then buy it. If you're right, then someday, when the markets invariably are bullish again, you will be sitting on a terrific holding.
Someone on a recent SI posts (I don't recall where or whom) made a good point about how rare it is to find the investor who still has shares from the MSFT, CSCO, INTC, etc IPO days. In hindsight, holding shares in any of those quality companies would have made you rich. The problem is, few folks are willing to hold stocks like these through bear markets, savage sell offs, etc, in order to realize that long term benefit.
I started investing in '79 and have been through my share of bear markets. The only times I did poorly during those times was when I got clever and tried to time the markets. Doesn't work for me.
Again, I appreciate the efforts you put into this analysis.
