RE: Turf the embargo.

I'm starting to lean that way. I don't agree with those that say that Cuba's economy is as bad as it is only because of the embargo, I think Castro has a lot more to do with
its problems than anything the US has done, but the embargo does give Castro an excuse. Plus I don't like embargoes in general, they reduce freedom and wealth. Its the US government commanding its citizens not to trade with another country. Its one thing if we are actively at war with another country or the trade involves weapons that would be sold to a potential enemy, but selling food or CDs to Cuba or buying cigars or sugar does not endanger anyone. About the only thing I don't like about lifting the embargo is that it would be viewed by some as an acceptance of Castro and his regime, but that arguement is week. Another slightly stronger argument if that the embargo's
pressure might make Castro's regime weaker, but that argument is week as well considering the historical record. Its failed for decades, including years after the end of Soviet aide, and with most of the rest of the world trading with Cuba the embargo has a limited effect. If we can trade with China and give aide to North Korea of all places I can't see why we have to have a law banning Americans from trading with Cubans.
