[GTE Call...]

My Fellow Amatians,

Just listened to the call. A few comments & observations:

* Trials are successful thus far.
* CAP/DMT issue is not the main issue. ADSL Service delivery for
GTE is of greater importance
* The CAP/DMT issues that are documented are "consistent" with
the trial. DMT needs to use less power and smaller. GTE
said vendor was aware.
* 6MBS ADSL for Microsoft is working well
* No timeframes for: phase III ending, ADSL deployment, vendor
selection or commitment.
* GTE will look at Amati/Westell and other vendors
* Line conditioning not a major problem. Procedures used for IDSN
can be applied to ADSL. I think they said 70% works w/o line
conditioning. Could be wrong here.

The call was "very measured". They realize the impact it would have
on Westell/Amati.

Clearly, the investment in BBN and the success of these trials can only mean larger business for both companies with continued
success and newer products addressing any issues.

A major part of the GTE announcment is that they are organized into
4 companies..one of those being a CLEC to provide "high speed" data
netwroking services AT&T/MCI or others can't resell. It may take
time for the orgaizational dust to settle with the reorg and the BBN
purchase. It appears everything else is going well. GTE would like
"flawless excecution" and these tests allow them to drill down on
some key vertical appplications they will target.

Also...why would GTE telegraph the competition on end of trials vs.
deployment...let them guess. My guess is sooner than '98 for market
entry. Why would you organize a company six months before an
actual offer? Seems like alot of "downtime"...I guess end of Q3/early
Q4.

H&Q didn't even need to ask any questions....oh that's right they
had written their editorial before the conference call..how
objective is that... you really have to laugh.

Regards,

Bob
