pledge of allegiance
I would not change the ceremony, I would change the pledge. The phrase "Under God" was added to the pledge under pressure from Southern Democrats about the 1950s. The reasoning for the change was to change the phrase that real Americans pledged, to have "one nation indivisible". These old dudes were still thinking Civil War thoughts and wanted to separate the "one nation" from the "indivisible" by tossing in a reference to God (Which as I was taught as a kid then refered to God being "indivisible" i.e. you should pledge to uphold the trinity idea of three personalities in one God.) This completely changed the pledge from one for a united country to a pledge toward a christain country. I would bring the pledge back to it's original purpose.
