Intel Announces China Wireless Competence Center At Asia Pacific Intel Developer Forum
Intel(R) Wireless Competence Center in Beijing Is Third Wireless Center Opened by Intel Worldwide
BEIJING, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2000-- Intel Corporation today announced the formation of its third Intel© Wireless Competence Center, based in Beijing.

The mission of the center, announced by Intel Vice President Ron Smith at the Asia Pacific Intel Developer Forum in China, is to promote development of wireless Internet technology through cooperation with leading companies in the Chinese cellular phone industry.

With the new center in China and established sites in Japan and Europe, Intel will continue to help pioneer the development of technologies and solutions for next-generation cell phones. The center will also provide a venue for Chinese companies to develop technologies enabling new content and services for broadband Internet connection via cellular phones.

``Wireless access to the Internet will become a major trend throughout the world in the coming years,' said Smith, general manager of Intel's Wireless Communications and Computing Group. ``Intel has dedicated teams at its Wireless Competence Centers to help develop wireless solutions that work seamlessly with Internet client, server and network infrastructures.'

``China is an important market for wireless Internet products, and this center will play a key role in helping Intel develop products and technologies that meet the specific needs of the Chinese market,' said Wee Theng Tan, Intel China's chief operating officer.

Intel established its first Wireless Competence Center in Stockholm, Sweden, in November 1999. Intel's second Wireless Competence Center was announced in February in Tsukuba, Japan.

Intel announced its commitment to wireless communications with the formation of its Wireless Communications and Computing Group in December 1999. The group focuses on cellular and wireless communications, providing building blocks for computing and wireless communication devices and data applications in the growing cellular market. Intel's wireless direction includes building on core businesses, such as its industry-leading flash memory technology; cellular chipsets; high-performance, low-power processors; and digital signal processing activities.
