Perhaps you would have liked to volunteer to knock on the door and ask for the child? And perhaps you would have gotten him or, just perhaps, you would have been met by a shotgun blast. I'm sure a heartfelt apology from Janet Reno to the widow and children of Volunteer INS Officer O'Berry would be all that would be needed after that. Hmmm...what would she say? "Well, Mrs. O'Berry, as you know, I got some terrible press after Waco, and I knew I'd get more if I sent armed men into the Gonzalez household. So we decided to risk your husband's life so I could avoid criticism. Sometimes federal officers such as your husband have to lose their lives as an illustration of what can go wrong when we misjudge whether or not there is a potential for violence. You can bet the next time I'm urged to send unarmed officers into a potentially violent situation, I'll hold up a picture of the late Mr. O'Berry."

No, apparently, there were not armed. We know that now. No one knew it beforehand. Or do you so hate Clinton/Reno that you don't give a whit about federal officers with spouses and children who for small pay could get their heads blown off if not fully prepared for the worst?
