a wall of separation between church and State
While many polititians have over time used religion to get votes, the wall between civil and religous ideas it virtually the definition of freedom. Without it the religion in the majority would seek special considerations and ultimately authority based on unworldly concepts. Look to Iran to see the natural consequence of the loss of this separation.
