Charred, quite often a gravity line is very effective in hilly terrain since you can suspend it to get a gradual gradient and as long as you have low enough friction inthe system you need minimal power, even brakes for steep ones.
I was amazed at the length that some gravit lines were in past times. Trucks burn a lot of fuel in a long hilly run...but we are just speculating now. It might be in a natural bowl and all they have to do is pump in leachant and extract the gold<GGG>
When you get down to low cost mining trucking costs become a major cost factor, both fuel, repairs, first cost, workers etc......so long conveyors or bucket lines can be very effective.
