I believe it's time to revisit the Cuba Policy. The Cubans, are now for the most part Economic refugees not Political refugees. The Cold War is over. There is not a Russian threat, 90 miles from Florida.

If Elian had been less photogenic, this would not have been a story. If he had been a Haitian, or a Mexican child; there would have been no story. If the Cubans want changes in Cuba. It's time for them to make those changes in Cuba, not on the streets of Florida. It is time to stop playing politics to this child's life, and send him home.

The Justice Department showed amazing patience in five months of negotiations, with what has been reported as an alcoholic. I wouldn't want my son's care in the hands of some relative that couldn't hold a job. Someone who tried to get a job driving a school bus, after he lost his driver's licence for drinking and driving.

This could backfire on the Republicans as they continue playing up the anti-Clinton tactics, while filling their pockets with money from Cuban hard-liners exiles. Time will tell. I know my view of the Cuban exiles is being revaluated after all this.

Elian has become a meal ticket for his relatives. I think it's time for the boy to go home with his father, so he can get on with the grieving for his mother.
