Sure, there are rudimentary moral systems in pre-literate societies......I am not sure how you would determine that all morality is "practical" through the observation of behavior, except to the limited extent that people sometimes fail to live up to their ideals. In fact, I could point to a theme that runs throughout social customs that are usually considered sub- moral, but are related. For example, it does not take much social development before proper behavior includes eating with utensils, shaving, bathing on a regular basis (or using cologne), building substantial housing, celebrating the deeds of the great, and so on. All of these things fit with the idea of enhancing human dignity beyond strict utility.......
