Active Voice's Phone Dialer for Microsoft Windows 2000 Wins 'Best of Show At CT EXPO 2000'
PR Newswire - April 24, 2000 05:15

SEATTLE, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Active Voice Corporation (Nasdaq: ACVC), a global provider of true unified messaging and computer telephony software solutions, today announced that its Phone Dialer solution won the "Best of Show at CT EXPO 2000." The award, presented by Computer Telephony magazine in the April 2000 issue, recognized Active Voice's Phone Dialer for its "TAPI 3.0's capabilities and third-party control that works with both legacy telephone systems and IP telephony devices." Phone Dialer is a voice and video communications application developed for Microsoft and packaged with Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system products.

"In addition to Unity(TM), its superb unified messaging system, Active Voice showed off its newly developed Phone Dialer application for Windows 2000," writes Bill Michael, an editor for Computer Telephony magazine. "TAPI 3.0 includes support for streaming media, H.323, and IP multi-casting. Phone Dialer uses the same interface to place and receive circuit-switched and IP calls, as well as to transmit two-way streaming video. TAPI's H.323 and IP multicast support makes it possible to participate in multipoint conferences over IP (using Phone Dialer), as well."

Phone Dialer makes IP Communications Easy for Customers

Using the TAPI 3.0, Phone Dialer gives users the ability to make and receive both traditional telephone and IP (Internet and Intranet) voice and video calls using a single application. The unique Phone Dialer call control user interface hides technical complexity. A user does not need to ask, "Is this a telephone call or an IP call? Is this voice or is this video?" Phone Dialer will take care of establishing the connectivity over the appropriate network so users only have to manage calls -- not networks, protocols, or media types. Phone Dialer enables point-to-point voice or video calls, as well as multi-party calls through conference bridging using TAPI 's H.323 support. In addition, Phone Dialer takes advantage of TAPI 3.0's bandwidth-efficient IP Multicast support and the Windows 2000 Active Directory Service to enable a user to create, administer, and participate in scheduled IP-based video and voice conference calls.

"The roll-out of Windows 2000 and Phone Dialer has sparked a wave of excitement in the industry and with W2K's users," notes Ken Myer, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Active Voice. "We are very pleased with the recognition Computer Telephony magazine has given to Phone Dialer's advanced IP communications features -- they were designed to make this new technology customer-friendly. As Windows 2000 is deployed over the next few years, millions of users will have the ability to access information on Active Voice's other 'best of class' products and a Phone Dialer upgrade from a URL provided in the 'About' Phone Dialer screen."
