No, No, Mr. Fun, I was not criticizing McGinn and his executive mgmt team for not making the right call (or "guess"?) on the optics space in 1996. You are right that when it comes to strategic decisions like this, you can be just as often wrong as right and perhaps next time LU will guess right and NT will be the one to be left behind.

The point I was trying to make was precisely reinforced by the point you made -- which is that McGinn KNEW they had huge problems meeting the numbers last quarter WELL in advance precisely because their customers were going over to NT in droves bypassing the OC-48 for OC-192.

So my only point to Techplayer was that McGinn did not wake up on the day of the warning to FIND OUT that LU had a huge revenue shortfall for the past quarter finished!

Kenneth made the point that MSFT is at least aware of their weakening orders/revenue and are pre-announcing well before the quarter end.

Lot of people don't trust LU for these reasons -- and that is why they are still in the penalty box despite what appears to be a decent quarter past.......LU has shown to be 'possibly' trying to 'manage' their financials (overhyping earnings), press releases (phantom product releases), org structures (Enterprise spin-off), etc.etc. all in the name of goosing up their stock price.

This to me is not a good sign.

They should concentrate on leveraging the tremendous asset that they have in Bell Labs and show leadership in both technology and management -- not play these silly games which does nothing to strengthen their competitive position.
