So does this mean Gore has abandoned his loony idea to ban the internal combustion engine in 10 years? If now why dump $140 Million /year down a dead end rat hole?

Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Al Gore is using a new research program for boosting the gas mileage of heavy trucks to argue that environmentalism doesn't have an anti-industry tinge.

The project doesn't require vehicle makers to build vehicles; rather they commit to constructing "production prototypes," which could be used for mass production. Under the initiative, Mr. Gore proposes to boost spending on truck-research projects by $47 million in the fiscal year starting Oct. 1 to $142 million.
