Ahhhhhh, now we get to the heart of the problem. What to do? Juan MUST do as Castro orders. Juan must return Castro's trophy, Elian, to Cuba. This will happen.
For Elian's extended, exile family in Miami, time and prayers were their only hope. The longer that they held Elian, the longer Elian would stay in this country, and the longer Juan would stay in this country, leaving open the door to Juan asking for political asylum.
Now that Elian is back in Juan's (Castro's) hands, all hope is gone. Juan's family, including Elian, will now have to go back to imprisonment in Cuba.
If Elian's entire Cuban family had been allowed to come with Juan to the U.S., they all would have asked to stay in freedom. But, now, Juan will return dutifully back to Castro, and the ropes around Juan's parents necks will be taken off. |
